We can take our making activities to Hana (secluded east side paradise), Ka'anapali/Lahaina/Napili on west end, etc. It takes several hours to drive to Hana, and an hour or so to Kaanapli from central valley.

One project I've seen semi-locally is the Robotics Alliance van used for FIRST Robotics Competitions in Jan-March. Alas it reportedly is unused the rest of the year. My pics of it from last year are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mauimakers/sets/72157627648217174/ Its mostly a metal shop on wheels, intended to setup with local power supply and spread outside for some setup (welding, chop saw, etc). I'm hoping to do something similar with more of an electronics focus, but maybe with some desktop cnc/laser capabilities.
